Normally, when a consumer makes a purchase, they expect their ownership and usage of the product to last. That's not necessarily the case when purchasing music protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management). According to Steven Metalitz, the MPAA and RIAA copyright lawyer it is perfectly acceptable to shutdown DRM authentication and leave the consumer with non-functioning digital files.
