In the 1987 comedy The Princess Bride, Westley discusses with Princess Buttercup the hazards of the Fire Swamp. Regarding the R.O.U.S., he replies, "Rodents Of Unusual Size? I don't think they exist." Little did the characters know, but rodents of unusual size do exist in the wild. A Mallomys Giant Rat was discovered in the Foja Mountains of New Guinea. At five times the size of a New York City subway rat, the giant rat weighs in at more than three pounds and is the size of a domestic house cat. Researchers commented, "With no fear of humans, it apparently came into the camp several times during the trip."
