3D Mandelbrot Images

An object that displays approximately the same shape or properties regardless of viewing scale can be described as a fractal. The Mandelbrot Set is a series of complex numbers defined iteratively by a function and is known outside of mathematics circles for producing "pretty fractal pictures". Visualizations of the Mandelbrot Set have to date been two dimensional and many mathematicians have sought a way to create three dimensional fractals. Enter the Mandelbulb, a 3D visualization of a modified Mandelbrot Set created by experimenting with plotting the set against different coordinate systems and applying differing multipliers to the formula. For the non-math savants, the result makes for some very cool computer renderings.
