Trump and Russian Hacker Invitation
The Russians are already implicated in the hacks by Guccifer against the Democratic National Convention email server. During the Democratic convention, Presidential candidate Trump continues to make waves with headlines regarding his challenge to Russia regarding the thousands of lost Clinton emails. Some view his statement as a direct invitation to allow a foreign state actor to commence cyber-attacks against the US government. Others see the statement as typical rhetoric but regarding the data that has already been stolen. His actual words were, "It shows how little respect they have for our country when they would hack into a major party and get everything. But it would be interesting to see, I will tell you this, Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30K emails that are missing. I think you'll probably be rewarded mightily by our press." Trump's comments aside, the matter of Russia's intervention into American politics is interesting from an information shaping perspective showing how nation states can and will influence the political future of their rivals through manipulation campaigns to seed doubt.
